Questioning.
Is the question you are asking still the right one?
Open up the request.
Start with a solution you have in mind. Look at it through a different question.
A solution can be the beginning of a more useful question.
“We need a campaign.” Perhaps. First, though, we can ask what should change and what relationship we want to build.
The brief is already a place of transformation. If the request stays confined to the solution we imagine, we risk repeating a familiar route. A good question lets us discover other possibilities too.
We bring reflection into practical work. Who are we communicating for? What experience are we offering? What are we taking for granted? Observation becomes direction when these questions meet the reality of the business.
Try changing
perspective.
Write the solution you have in mind. Then rewrite it as a question, removing the name of the tool. “A new website” can become “How can we make our new direction understandable?”.
A shared brief, centred on the project’s meaning.
